Free Live Music in Indianapolis

A great night of live music doesn’t have to cost anything. Between free summer concert series, no-cover bar gigs, and open mics, you can hear live music in the Indianapolis area every week of the year without opening your wallet. Here’s where.

Free Summer Concert Series

The Cabaret’s Alley Concerts — Downtown Indy

Indy’s world-class listening room takes it outside in summer with free concerts in the alley beside its downtown home.

Free Tuesday Concerts at the Nickel Plate District Amphitheater — Fishers

Every summer Tuesday, Fishers throws a free concert at its downtown amphitheater. Bring a blanket; food trucks handle the rest.

Carmel Gazebo Concerts — Carmel

A free, family-friendly series on the Carmel City Hall lawn, running weekly through the summer.

Concerts at the Commons — Noblesville

The city’s free summer series at Federal Hill Commons, with local and classic-rock acts on the riverside stage.

No-Cover (or Nearly) Nights Around Indy

Some of the best rooms in the city charge little or nothing at the door most nights: the Chatterbox Jazz Club on Mass Ave has live jazz seven nights a week with a cheap-or-free cover, Tin Roof downtown usually has a band and no cover, and dives like the Melody Inn and State Street Pub keep covers minimal. The Rathskeller’s summer biergarten bands often come free with your table.

Open Mic Nights

Always free to watch — and free to play. See our full guide to Open Mic Nights in Indianapolis for the verified list.

One Honest Tip

“Free” series and no-cover nights change season to season. We verify this page against current schedules, but always check the venue’s own calendar before you drive across town. Spot something outdated? Tell us and we’ll fix it same-week.
