Brown County has more live music per square mile than almost anywhere in Indiana, and it comes in two very different sizes: a 2,000-seat room that books national tours, and a scattering of taprooms, patios and lounges where somebody is playing four or five nights a week. Nashville is the center of it, and most of what follows is within a few minutes of the village.
The Big Rooms
Brown County Music Center is the anchor — roughly 2,000 seats, opened in 2019, and the reason touring acts route through a town of about 1,000 people. Shows cluster Thursday through Sunday. The Fixx, with Colin Blunstone and Peter Asher, plays there on September 23, 2026.
Brown County Playhouse sits downtown on Van Buren Street with around 400 seats and a mixed calendar of concerts, plays, films and comedy. It is the room to check when the Music Center is dark.
Live Music Every Week
The most dependable stage in the county is the Corn Crib Lounge at the Brown County Inn, on State Road 46 East. It runs music four nights a week, year round, on a schedule you can actually plan around:
- Wednesday — open mic, 6–9 p.m.
- Thursday — Hill Folk Music Series, 7–9 p.m., leaning roots, folk, blues and Americana
- Friday and Saturday — bands, 8–11 p.m.
The lounge is 21+, though the room opens onto the dining area, so the music carries to a table where kids are welcome.
Beyond the Inn, live music turns up through the week at the Ferguson House Beer Garden in Antique Alley, the terrace at Hard Truth Hills, and the Story Inn down in Story, all of which run heaviest from spring through fall. Several more restaurants and taprooms around Nashville book weekend acts. Open Mics
The Brown County Inn open mic runs every Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m. with a rotating host, which makes it one of the more reliable weekly mics in southern Indiana. The Ferguson House Beer Garden also hosts a seasonal Thursday mic. More stages to start on are on our Indiana open mic list.
Bean Blossom and the Festival Grounds
Bill Monroe Music Park & Campground sits north of Nashville on State Road 135 at Bean Blossom, on grounds that have hosted bluegrass since 1967 — the oldest continuously running bluegrass festival site in the country. It is a festival destination rather than a weekly venue, with weekend-long events running May through October. More statewide dates are on our Indiana music festivals page.
Planning a Night
Two practical notes. Outdoor stages here cancel for weather, often the same day, so check the venue’s Facebook page before you drive down. And a lot of the music runs over dinner hours, which means the good tables fill early on Friday and Saturday.
