Red Bicycle Hall is the best small listening room in southeast Indiana, and it is not close. What to Expect
Two long-running series do most of the booking. The Kindred Folks Music Series has brought in SHEL, Parsonsfield, The Black Lillies, Wild Ponies and a young Billy Strings. The Roostertail Music Series leans outlaw country and Americana — Ward Davis, Chris Knight, Sunny Sweeney. That is a booking history most 500-capacity rooms in this state would take.
The hall shares its calendar with theater and arts programming through a set of partnerships with local organizations, so a given month might hold two concerts or none. It is worth following rather than checking once.
The setting is the draw as much as the room: Madison’s downtown is a 133-block National Historic Landmark district on the Ohio River, and the hall sits in the middle of it, a short walk from several bars that run their own weekend music.
