The Art has been on Main Street in Hobart since 1940, and since new owners took it over in January 2019 it has become the Region’s main independent music room — the place a touring band plays when they want northwest Indiana and not Chicago. Rock, metal, hip-hop, tributes and comedy, most weekends, all ages with a 21+ bar.

What to Expect
An old single-screen movie house converted properly: individual seat ticketing, VIP seating, a full bar, a private green room and a real sound and lighting rig. It is small enough to feel close and equipped well enough that touring acts do not have to compromise.
The booking is genuinely broad. Omar Apollo and Riff Raff have played it; so have Insane Clown Posse, Powerman 5000 and Born of Osiris. Comedians Jamie Kennedy, Tim Meadows and Chris Kattan have all been through. On a given month you might find a Beatles tribute, a hardcore bill and a Rocky Horror screening.
Free street parking runs along Main Street with a municipal lot next to the theater. The Art is also one of four northwest Indiana stages programmed in part by the promoter Hometown Jams, alongside the Brickie Bowl a few blocks away, Central Park Plaza in Valparaiso and Bulldog Park in Crown Point.
